Why shouldn't you travel to Cyprus?

Cyprus is a country very well- known for its beaches, the birthplace of the goddess of love- Aphrodite and, as befits the Greek island - meze. Sounds like paradise, right? So why shouldn't I travel there?

Let me make myself clear,

If you are the same type of traveler as I am, a backpacker and an adventure seeker who enjoys sleeping in hostels and going out with new people, someone who needs to feel adrenaline to feel alive or just simply loves being active, this place might be too dull for you.

I'm not a big fan of 5* all-inclusive hostels, but in Cyprus we had no choice as most of the hotels were in the same price per night as hostels.

From the bottom of my heart,

I would recommend this small Greek island to a person who travels for leisure purposes only. If you've got a full-time job and you're looking for a place to simply relax by the pool with a good book or to sunbath at the beach with crystal clear water, that is a perfect place for you. I must admit Cypriot beaches have delighted me with their beauty, but if you're looking for something more absorbing than that or prehistoric and ancient Cyprus ruins (they're everywhere), I would reconsider my holiday destination.

However, Cyprus is an ideal place for a family holiday. I've seen the countless amount of family deals from travel agencies. Not to lie, but a decent amount of pensioners was seen onboard as well!

Almost forgot to mention, Ayia Napa is a widely known place for partying till sunrise, so if you're a party animal or you've already been to Ibiza, I encourage you to try this new destination.

Why did we go to Cyprus? At the time we were all about the Mediterranean cuisine... and thoroughly speaking, the flight ticket was cheap. As always, it was a spontaneous reckless decision. No regrets.

March, the 30th. Just enjoying Cypriot coffee, at Miami Beach, Larnaca . Big thanks to Luna for making me bring my raincoat.

During our eight-day trip, despite lovely weather for ducks, we managed to visit the majority of crowd-pleaser location on the island.

Paphos (the former capital of Cyprus), Limassol and Ayia Napa are the most popular tourist resorts in Cyprus.

And as befits a resort, there are numerous seaside promenades, lots of local cafes and restaurants, souvenir shops and crowds of tourists who after all day spent on the beach are walking around all these places. Most of the beaches offer the possibility of water sports or quad rental. While in Paphos we will find a few interesting attractions (Tombs of Kings, mosaics, museums), Ayia Napa is completely devoid of Cypriot character. Once upon a time, it was a fishing village, now a charming holiday resort and clubs, located on the most beautiful part of the coast. It is definitely worth taking a boat trip to Cape Greco and dip yourself in the Blue Lagoon. In the summer the southeast coast of Cyprus is crowded and loud, and in the winter season, this vivid place turns into it is a ghosts town.

It's worth to mention that the port of Limassol is the largest port in Cyprus and the old harbour is transformed into a fishing harbour. Both ports are located in walking distance from the promenade. The 10km long promenade is hugely popular for its view of the sea, the sandy beaches, and the palm-coated surroundings and bunch of coastal night clubs.

The border between the Greek and Turkish parts runs, among others through Nicosia - the capital of Cyprus, which means that Nicosia remains the only divided capital in the world since the fall of the Berlin Wall. Interesting fact: to move from one side to the other, you must show a passport.

Other odds fact:

  • Cyprus is 35 times smaller than Poland

  • Left-hand traffic (remains of the British colony)

  • Plug and socket Type G

  • It is said that there are 2.5 cats per statistical Cypriot

  • The total flight duration from London to Larnaca is 4.5 hours.
